2008 Programs

December 2008:
Agave Quilters Guild Holiday Luncheon.

November 2008:
Gail Straka, a former instructor at Quilter's Ranch, has published several patterns geared to busting that pile of scraps and strips you've been saving. Don't miss this one!

October 2008:
Joan Bassett, pattern designer and owner of Jay Bee Designs, is a retailer/wholesaler of unique Southwestern, country, and unusual quilt patterns designed by her. She is a member and traveling teacher for the Arizona Quilters Guild. Her program title is Options Beyond the Pattern. Joan will share some of her wonderful patterns and designs with us and will explain how they, or any  pattern, can be expanded to create new and exciting designs. There will be a drawing for two of Joan's patterns.

September 2008:
The September meeting kicks off the remainder of the 2008 Agave Quilters Guild season. True to tradition, this meeting will be a time for the sisterhood to renew friendships and share their summer projects. Get ready for a special Show and Tell program! This is your opportunity to tell us about that special quilt, or how you came to expand your quilting skills with a new project over the summer.

June - July - August: Happy Summer - no meetings were held!

May 2008:
Our guest Speaker is Kendra L. Maclean of KLM Trade Company in Chandler. She is a designer that produces small quilt patterns as well as quilt cards that can be found in some of our local quilt shops. Kendra had a booth at the recent Tucson Quilt Show. She will speak to us about her card design business. The cards are made of fabric and come packaged with full instructions and an envelope ready for mailing. These designs are Kendra's original or public domain designs that have been reduced to a smaller scale, and great for scrap busting. Some items will be available for purchase. She will also teach a Build a Box workshop for members.

April 2008:
Agave Quilters Guild Spring Potluck Luncheon hosted by Sue Portschi and Joyce Davey. There will be a Show and Tell program by our membership.

March 2008:
March brings a "quilt studded" guild meeting featuring members' quilts, quilts, and more quilts. We look forward to seeing some of the art quilts from those who took Dorene Goeman's Art Quilt classes. Or perhaps some of you took up the challange from the TextureScapes class taught by Julie Hocker. Dorene will show work she has done in Ricky Tims classes, some "caveman quilts" and a large convergence quilt. She will also talk about the upcoming December seminar with Ricky Tims. March Show and Tell should be fantastic!

February 2008:
Julie Hocker, designer, lecturer, and owner of Ladyhawk Designs, is our guest speaker and teacher. For a sneak preview of her program check out Julie's website at ladyhawkdesigns.com. She will treat us to her beautiful designs for quilts and wearables. Julie is a great speaker and very motivating. She will bring patterns as well as products for purchase so you can put that finishing touch on your quilt or wearable. There will be no Show and Tell in order to give Julie plenty of time to speak and members time to look at her designs. Julie will also offer workshops for our members.

January 2008:
We will kick off the New Year with a dynamic guest speaker. Monica Gonzales, owner of Monica's Quilt and Bead Creations in Palm Desert, CA, will treat us to a trunk show of her fabulous quilts. She will also host a mini quilt store with quilts and a portion of her shop wares. Bring money! You will not be able to resist Monica's humor, materials and her knowledge of quilt making.
