2020 Programs
December 2020:
No holiday luncheon due to Covid19. The Oakwood Sewing Room is open
for use at your own risk. It is not being cleaned/sanitized so bring
your Clorox wipes and wear your masks as well as practice social
distancing. It will likely be after the first of next year (2021)
before we are allowed to meet again as a group. When the weather
cools off in November we are hoping to set up an outdoor Share
Table. Stay tuned.
November 2020:

June - July - August: Happy Summer -
no meetings were held!
May 2020:
No program due to Covid19.
Members were scheduled to do a "demo day" with each person who
signed up providing demonstrations on various techniques.
Unfortunately, the Covid19 pandemic caused the meeting to be
cancelled, hopefully to be resumed in September.
April 2020:
No program due to Covid19.
Jessica Dickinson, aka Quilt Mama, is an artist who has turned her
art into quilts. Her program is "What can I do with my scraps? She will teach us how to take care of and be even
more creative while using up our piles of fabric scraps. Jessica's
studio is full of bins of fabric scraps that are not sorted by
color. One should pick a scrap of fabric because it makes you happy.
By working with scraps of all colors mixed together, you will see
how colors work together. If you had each color sorted in different
bins, this wouldn't happen. For Jessica, playing with fabric scraps
is like meditation.
March 2020:
Patricia Knoechel from
Quilt In A
Day, is scheduled to come back this month with their newest designs. (If Pat looks familiar,
she was our speaker just a year ago in March 2019.) She will teach a
class on curved borders the following day.
(
NOTE:
March was our last in person meeting due to Arizona issuing a
stay-at-home order for Covid19 on March 31, 2020 in an effort to
slow the spread of the virus in AZ.)
February 2020:
Today's speaker is Kathy Reynolds, owner of
A Quilter's
Oasis in
Mesa with her husband Bob. Kathy demonstrated the latest Deb
Tucker tools and techniques with demos and samples showing the
results of using these tools. This will help us
be more efficient quilters. We learned a lot about using tools and
techniques to help us be more accurate in our cutting and sewing. Kathy left her 25 year career as a
pediatric RN to open A Quilter's Oasis in 2005. She has sewn since
the age of 8 years old. In 1984 she took her first quilting class
and fell in love with the art of quilting. She loves to share her
passion for quilting with others.
January 2020:
Our scheduled speaker is
Swan Sheridan of
Swan Amity Designs in Tucson.
Her lecture entitled "Color Comparison" teaches us about color
theory. We will learn while actively looking at and comparing 40
different quilts. In this way, we can see how the use of color can
change the nature and beauty of our quilts. In addition to her
speaking engagements, Swan is a quilt teacher of applique, color,
and hand quilting. Guest fee $10.
