2021 Programs

December 2021:

Our annual Holiday Luncheon with the theme "Timber Gnomes" was hosted by guild members Lois Hammer and Jan Vickery, co-hospitality chairs. On the menu was plated pork roast with all the trimmings, beverage and dessert. The event was well attended and featured guessing games plus numerous raffle/door prizes. Each attendee received a beautiful, folded-abric star ornament handmade by member Pat Johnson. Many thanks to Lois Hammer, Jan Vickery, Sally Walby, Sandi Martin and the whole team for making this a huge success.

November 2021:

Our guest speaker was Jessica Dickinson who presented "Journey Through Scrap Mountain." Known as Quilt Mama on Facebook, Jessica is located in Tempe. When asked what is the smallest size scrap piece she saves, Jessica replied, "I never waste anything." Her amazing presentation was certainly evidence of that and we got some great ideas on how to use all of our scraps.

October 2021:

Today's program featured "not your usual trunk show" by our very own Agave member and co-president, Shari Davison. The title of Shari's presentation is "Not Your Usual Trunk Show." She showed old quilts made by her family and explained why they were special to her. The only reason she knew so much about the quilts she showed is that she asked a great aunt to document them for her. Otherwise a lot of wonderful information would have been lost forever. Shari stressed the importance of leaving a record by labeling each quilt. Putting "to Kathy from Grandma" won't provide the needed info. Putting "to Kathy (last name) from Grandma (full name) with the reason why the quilt was made (i.e., graduation, birthday, etc.) with the date made" will help future generations have a special connection to your quilts. Also, make a photo book of all the quilts you make. Even if it's just pages stapled together. Shutterfly, Walgreens, etc., have wonderful options to create photo books.
